Kuchibhotla Anand, Volga, and two others receive Spoorthi awards

Justice Lavu Nageswara Rao, judge, Supreme Court, said giving those in need gave him satisfaction which can be never matched.

Speaking at the Spoorthi Awards instituted by Bommidala Srikrishnamurthy Foundation held here on Sunday, Justice Nageswara Rao said that Dharma irrespective of any religion was to help others.

Four distinguished personalities, Kuchibhotla Anand, CEO and Chairman of Silicon Andhra, Popuri Lalitha Kumari known by pen name, Volga, Bala Theresa Singareddy Gingras and KM Yadav were presented with the Spoorthy Awards in the categories of Education, Telugu Literature, Rural Development and Social Service respectively.

Mr. Anand said that his journey from a student born in a middle class family to the United States of America and later establishing a Silicon Andhra University has been made possible by his passion for Telugu language and culture. He thanked Lakkireddy Hanimi Reddy for donating a substantial sum for establishing an university.

Volga in her speech said that she was born in Guntur district and had her schooling there. “We are now living in a liberal world where women are being treated with respect and laws protecting women’s rights have been formed. But there needs to be a change in the mindset and women should be treated as equal to men,” Volga said. Ms. Theresa said that a letter written by her father while she was in Canada inspired her to take up social work in Warangal district. Beginning with drinking water projects, the NGO started by her ‘Bala Vikasa’, is now playing a role in sustainable development, self-employment and social enterprises.
