The early years (1967–1975)
Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayappan in Sivakasi on August 13, 1963, Sridevi started her career at the age of four in the devotional film Thunaivan. She appeared as a child actor in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada films, and became a star in these languages as an adult. Her films as a child were Poompatta (1971) and Badi Panthulu (1972). In 1975, Sridevi made her Bollywood debut in Julie, where she played protagonist Lakshmi’s sibling. She also acted alongside late chief minister Jayalalithaa in Thirumangalyam, Kandan Karunai and Adi Parashakti.

Southern success (1976-1982)
1976: Plays her first leading role in the Tamil film Moondru Mudichu directed by K Balachander. Follows it up with several Kamal, Rajini-starrers.
1977: The year begins with Gayathri, followed by Kavikkuyil and 16 Vayathi nile , where she plays a young girl torn between two lovers. She also stars in the movie’s Telugu remake Padaharella Vayasu in 1978.
1978: A highlight of the late 70s is her film Sigappu Rojakkal, alongside Kamal, directed by Bharathiraja. The period also witnessed her taking on films such as Priya, Karthika Deepam, Johnny and Varumayin Niram Sivappu. She was also pitted against Sivaji Ganesan in Sandhippu, Kavari Mann and Pilot Premnath

1981: Meendum Kokila wins her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil.
1982: Moondram Pirai features her playing a woman suffering from amnesia. It bags her the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress.
Conquest of Bollywood (1983-1997)

1979: Sridevi debuts as a heroine in Solva Sawan
1983: She stars opposite Jeetendra in Himmatwala, one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The film establishes her credentials in Bollywood and her dance number in the song Nainon Mein Sapna turns her into a national sensation. The year also sees Sridevi achieving critical acclaim with Sadma , a remake of her Tamil film Moondram Pirai .
1984: Her release Tohfa turns out to be the biggest hit of the year. Between 1983-88, the Jeetendra-Sridevi pair makes 16 films together with 13 hits and 3 flops.
1985: Sridevi gets secretly hitched with Mithun Chakraborty. The relationship lasts only 3 years.
1986: The fantasy film Nagina finds Sridevi playing a shape-shifting woman. It turns out to be the second biggest blockbuster of the year. Her dance in the climactic song Main Teri Dushman has become the stuff of pop culture legends. Sridevi also starred in hits like Subhash Ghai’s Karma and Feroze Khan’s Janbaaz .
1987: Sridevi plays a goofy crime journalist in Mr India, one of India’s first attempts at the sci-fi genre. Directed by Shekhar Kapur, it became one of the top grossers of the year. Her dance in songs like Hawa Hawai and Kaate Nahin Katte made the film even more memorable for fans.
1989: Chaalbaaz features Sridevi in a double role, playing twin sisters separated at birth. The film cemented her status as an actor with a killer comic timing. The year also saw the release of Yash Chopra’s Chandni, a love triangle that went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of 1989
1991: Yash Chopra casts Sridevi once again in Lamhe. Her folk dance number Morni Bagama becomes a rage
1992: Sridevi stars in the epic Khuda Gawah opposite Amitabh Bachchan. The actress played a double role again as an Afghani warrior Benazir and her daughter Mehendi. Down south, her performance in Ram Gopal Varma’s Kshana Kshanam wins her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu
1993: Her big budget release Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja was one of India’s most expensive films ever. The film bombed at the box office. She still continues bagging plum roles in films such as Gumrah opposite Sanjay Dutt.
1994: Sridevi teams up with Anil Kapoor again in Laadla where she plays a haughty business tycoon

1996: Sridevi marries Boney Kapoor, a film producer and the elder brother of actors Anil and Sanjay Kapoor. She has two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi.
1997: Judaai, her last major film before taking a break from the industry, features Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar
The comeback saga (2012-2017)

2012: Sridevi returns to films with the successful comedy-drama English Vinglish and earns critical acclaim for her performance in the film.
2015: Her last Tamil film Puli saw her playing the role of a queen
2017: She stars in her 300th film role in the thriller Mom

2018: Having shot her portions for the upcoming SRK starrer Zero, Sridevi had gone to Dubai to attend a family wedding, during which she breathed her last.
