‘Dulamekkina Moodu Koyyalu’ reflects farm crisis in villages

It's a play played by farmers and villagers truly presenting the serious crisis being faced by farmers and how it has been deteriorating the financial condition of farmers' families. This was performed in this village on Sunday evening.

The play 'Doolamekkina Moodu Koyyalu' played in the village by farmers from neighbouring villages also shown how farmers are being lured to sow cotton seed by companies stating their lives will be transformed. It has also exhibited how Seth (small time business man in the village who lends hand loans to farmers to sow seed to harvesting) extend loans to farmers and collects the crop after harvesting and pays the remaining money to farmers deducting the loan. In the play it was shown how farmers are being paid paltry amounts by the business man.

Many will go for cotton crop despite serious warning by elderly persons in the village.

Finally, the play ends with a question by actors on whether to go for food crops which would offer food security and needs large number of labour or to go for cotton which has been entrapping them in debt?

A scroll by D. Vaikuntam Nakash descripting the village life was unvield and dedicated to farming community.

'Moodu Koyyalu' represents 'Gorru,' a farm instrument used for sowing seeds and Dulamekkadam means kept aside on the top of Dulam (beam), for resting.

Four artists from Budagajangam community sung songs in local slang explaining the prevailing situation in villages.

The programme was organised by Kudali, a learning centre farmers' issues.
