SILIGURI: With an objective to build a stronger bondage between MSME sector and entities like large scale enterprises, a national level Vendor Development Programme–cum-exhibition (NLVDP) has begun on Monday at Siliguri. Organised by Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development Institute(MSMEDI) of GoI, the event will continue till Wednesday to become a wide platform for all the stakeholders to interact in between.

“The basic objective of organising this meet and exhibition is to bring various stakeholders, such as, PSUs/large scale enterprises, financial Institutions and the Micro, Small & Medium enterprises on a common platform where all can get ample scope for interaction and can exchange views among themselves. This forum would motivate all to extract mutual benefit from each other to augment their growth through better co-existence,” Sudip Sen, Assistant Director MSMEDI told ET.

As per the GoI public procurement policy effective from 1st April 2012, all the central Ministries, PSUs or Government departments must procure minimum 20% of their annual requirement from the MSMEs. The policy has already played a vital role in giving major boost to the MSME sector pulling up its contribution to national GDP to 38%. MSMEs contributions to national industrial output or export have also gone up to 37% and 40% respectively.

“Now it to too important for MSMEs to have a clear understanding about specific need of PSUs and PSUs to have fair idea of the MSMEs capability for the MSME sector to grow further. So with Government ministries or departments too. This two way interactive platform can play a vital role in this,” said NTPC General Manager (C & M) NM Gupta. NTPC is a major supporter to MNME-DI in organising the event along with Federation of Association of Small Industries of India(FASII) and Siliguri Industrial Estate Development Association.

“With this in mind, this National level meet cum Exhibition has the main focus on highlighting various points including purchase procedure, policy and items purchased by PSUs/Government, showcasing the entrepreneurs’ capability or Sorting out various common problems,” said S Saha, regional Vice President FASII.
