Three-day event showcases developments in engineering

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stressed the importance of conducting technical festivals at a a time when scientific temper is under questioning.

Addressing the valedictory of the three-day technical festival of the Kerala Technological University (KTU) at Sahrdaya College Of Engineering& Technology, Kodakara, on Sunday, he said students should garner the knowledge from such events and make use of them for the betterment of society.

He said that his government was committed to help novel ideas and young entrepreneurs. It was their duty as young engineers to foresee and implement ideas for the betterment of the State, he added.

The three-day event showcased the recent development in every stream of engineering from the State.

The event attracted scientific academia, which showed its response by the overwhelming number of papers received for the conference, Kerala Technology Conference (KETCON). The project exhibition TEKON remained the centre of attraction for common people.

From around 500 entries, around 135 projects were exhibited as part of the competition.

The project from Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology won the first prize for developing vehicle for differently abled, which received a cash award of ₹35,000 from KSCSTE and ₹35,000 from TCS.

The second prize was bagged by the students from MA College of Engineering, Kothamangalam, and the third prize was secured by Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Ernakulam.

The valedictory was presided over by Prof. Dr. J. Latha (KTU Vice Chancellor).
