The Indian Bank Employees’ Federation (IBEF) opposed the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill and demanded that the Centre give up various ‘anti-worker’ legislations and shelve the proposed privatisation of Public Sector Banks.
Resolutions were passed to this effect on the second and final day of the IBEF’s national conference here, which was attended by Bank Employees’ Federation of India (BEFI) joint secretary Chiranjit Ghosh as the chief guest.
The participants demanded that outsourcing of work be stopped and the services of temporary ones regularised.
On Day-1 of the conference, BEFI general secretary Pradip Biswas said 50 corporate houses account for an estimated 78% of the total Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) of the PSBs but the Central government was not initiating criminal cases against those willful defaulters.
Public interest
He insisted that the fight against privatisation should be kept up in public interest while safeguarding against frauds like the one perpetrated by some big diamond traders.
