PUNE: The city police’s economic offences wing (
EOW) on Monday seized five imported cars and an imported motorcycle, together worth Rs5 crore, belonging to developer
D S Kulkarni, also known as DSK.
Assistant commissioner of police (EOW)
Nilesh More told TOI that the five imported cars and the high-end power bike were seized from DSK’s
Senapati Bapat Road bungalow. “He and his companies own about 35 vehicles, out of which police seized six vehicles on Monday as a part of the ongoing probe,” More said.
As of now, both, DSK (68) and his wife, Hemanti (59), are in police custody remand till March 1 following their arrest on February 17 in a case of cheating and offences under the
Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act after their group of companies failed to return the deposits with interest to several depositors.
The probe has gathered momentum after the police secured DSK’s custodial remand again on February 23 after a medical board of the
Sassoon General Hospital ruled that the developer was fit for facing police interrogation. DSK was till then under magisterial custody after he collapsed and slipped into unconsciousness in the police lock-up early in the morning on February 18.
More said, “We are searching his (DSK’s) properties not mortgaged with banks and they will be sealed soon.” He did not divulge details of these properties, though.
The EOW officials have started receiving more complaints every day post-arrest of the developer. A senior EOW officer told TOI that about 400 complaints were received in the past two days.
“A majority of these are related to fixed deposit (FD) investments. Apart from the FD-related complaints, a total of 200 complaints have been received from persons giving loan to DSK. Another desk is registering complaints of persons, who booked apartments in different property schemes of DSK. Even it has received substantial number of complaint applications,” the officer said.
So far, the police have received 4,400 complaint applications from the persons who have invested in fixed deposits with the builder. The total amount of these deposits has now reached Rs320 crore. More said the developer was answering all the questions barring one — where the money was or it had gone?
