Revere reportedly lands minor league deal with Reds
Outfielder Ben Revere, who has played for five major league teams in the past six seasons, reportedly is headed to a new organization.
The Cincinnati Reds gave the 29-year-old veteran a minor league deal and invited him to spring training, FanRag Sports's Jon Heyman reported Sunday.
According to Heyman, Revere would earn between $1 million and $1.5 million if he makes the Reds' major league roster.
Revere primarily has played center field in his career, though he also has seen extensive time in both outfield corners.
Last season, Revere appeared in 109 games for the Los Angeles Angels, hitting .275 with a .308 on-base percentage, a .344 slugging percentage, one home run, 20 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
He has played for the Minnesota Twins (2010-12), Philadelphia Phillies (2013-15), Toronto Blue Jays (2015), Washington Nationals (2016) and the Angels (2017).
Revere led the National League with 184 hits in 2014, and also had a career-high 49 stolen bases that year. He posted a career-best .719 on-base-plus-slugging percentage (OPS) in 2015 while splitting the season between Philadelphia and Toronto, but he slipped to a .217 average and a woeful .560 OPS for Washington in 2016.
Revere was the Twins' first-round draft pick (28th overall) in 2007 out of a Kentucky high school. According to baseball-reference.com, he made $4.1 million in 2015, $6 million in 2016 and $4 million in 2017.
