Suzlon ready to power Amaravati in green way

VISAKHAPATNAM: Suzlon Group, one of the leading firms in renewable energy sector, plans to expand its base in Andhra Pradesh. Suzlon Group CEO JP Chalasani said the firm wants to create an ecosystem for the development of renewable energy sector in the State.

Speaking to Express on the sidelines of the CII Partnership Summit here on Sunday, Chalasani said Suzlon would help the State government in harnessing renewable energy in Amaravati.

“The State government has plans to use green energy in its capital Amaravati and we can provide the energy required for electric cars or other such projects. However, we can come up with a specific project only after the State government finalises its plans,” he observed.

Chalasani, who says about 35 per cent of the energy produced in Andhra Pradesh (unitswise) is from renewable sources during windy seasons, made it clear that it is important to have an ecosystem for an expedited and longlasting development of the sector.

“So, our focus now will be on operations, maintenance and services in Andhra Pradesh. This will help in the growth of local entrepreneurs. Thus, it will lead to direct and indirect employment,” he explained.

He said Suzlon Group would invest more money in retaining its present 40 per cent share in the renewable energy market in the State.

When asked on the quantum of the investment, he said, “We are committed to work with the government of Andhra Pradesh for several years to come. We will invest whatever is required to retain our position as the market leader here.”
