Online fraud: Rourkela youth detained

Working on inputs of the Bengaluru police, a youth here was detained by the Rourkela police, who is allegedly involved in an online fraud racket.

The police also seized about 14 pass books of different banks of the city, where in deposits of Rs 17 lakh have been found, which reportedly have been accumulated from these fraudulent deals. A team of Bengaluru police is expected to arrive here on Monday.

According to police sources, the accused youth was identified as Chetan Sharma, a resident of the Jagada area of the city. Sources said Sharma is a key member of online fraud racket. Their modus operandi is they give messages over e-mail and phone to different persons from across the country and inform them that they have won a lottery of a hefty amount and exploit them by asking them to deposit processing fees.
