Amol Palekar finds Jharkhand film policy promising for silver screen

Veteran actor of yesteryears Amol Palekar during a felicitation ceremony organised by the members of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) here on Sunday discussed about the prospects of making the State as a cinema hub with the help of the Jharkhand Film Development Corporation. The actor on the occasion appreciated Jharkhand government’s initiative for drafting a suitable film policy benefitting the local artists of the State.

“I see immense potential in Jharkhand for further advancement of films. I extend my gratitude towards the State government’s approach in providing opportunities to several artists through film policy. I have heard lot about Jharkhand among the film fraternity. I will lend all possible support to Jharkhand Film Development Corporation. I am here to explore the rich culture of Jharkhand,” said Palekar.

The actor who is still remembered for iconic roles in ‘Golmaal’, ‘Choti Si Baat’ and other cult movies had an opportunity to visit Jharkhand, way back in 80s. The actor who was here with his wife Sandhya Gokhle will be participating in the upcoming Jharkhand International Film Festival scheduled from April 6 to April 8.

Showcasing the potential of Jharkhand, besides film screening, on the spot talent hunt programme, on the spot story narration contest, interaction session with the students of mass communication of different universities will be also organised during the international film festival.

By far, the organisers have received the entries of 23 foreign films for the upcoming fest. A seminar focusing on ‘Film production, creation and profit’ has been planned in association with FJCCI during the international film fest as well. Celebrities like Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, Rituparna Sengupta, Nawazuddin Siddiqui have given their consent to grace the event. The yesteryear actor also remembered Sridevi, who breathed her last on February 25, as one of the finest actresses of film industry. Notably, Sridevi made her debut as a heroine in Hindi films in ‘Solwa Sawan’ in 1979 opposite Palekar.

“Her stardom never ever came in our way. Despite her being so successful in the film industry, we shared a special bonding. As a person she will be missed terribly. The news of her death is still to sink in. I have personally witnessed here transformation from just an artist to a superstar,” added Palekar. He along with other unveiled a poster of an upcoming feature film ‘Love Street’ on the occasion.
