The whole exercise was peaceful, says Superintendent of Police

The voting percentage in the re-election held in six centres in Tripura on Monday was 90.58. The Election Commission of India (ECI) had ordered the repoll after declaring the election held in these centres on February 18 void.

“The whole exercise was peaceful,” Superintendent of Police Pradip Dey told The Hindu.

Long queues were seen from the morning in the polling centres in Dhanpur, Sonamura, Teliamura, Sabroom, Ampinagar and Kurti-Kadamtala assembly constituencies.

Dhanpur is the constituency of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. The CPI(M) stalwart has been elected from this constituency continuously from 1998. Paramilitary units, especially from the ITBP, were deployed to maintain law and order in and around the polling stations. Counting of votes take place on March 3.
