Pune: As many as 15 passengers were injured on Monday afternoon when the PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited) bus they were travelling in fell on its side near Dehu Road.
Officials of the transport body said the mishap, which took place near Kendriya Vidyalaya on the Pune-Mumbai highway, happened because of bad road condition. However, sources said the bus driver, Ramdas Bandal, suddenly felt dizzy and while trying to stop the bus, lost control over it.
The officials added no one was seriously injured in the mishap, but authorities at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, where the injured were shifted, said a woman passenger had sustained serious head injuries and has been admitted for treatment.
PMPML public relations officer Subhash Gaikwad said, “The bus (number 935) was going to Kiwale from Nigdi. Though we have no information about the driver feeling dizzy and losing control over the bus, investigations are on. The driver lost control over the vehicle due to bad roads. All the 15 passengers, the driver and the conductor suffered minor injuries.”
Some of the injured passengers were taken to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri. “No one has been admitted. All were given first aid treatment and allowed to go. The bus was at a slow speed and the driver was trying to avert a pothole after which he lost control over it,” the officer said.
A doctor at the hospital said, “The woman had suffered severe head injuries and had to be operated upon immediately.”
