Pune: A 63-year-old woman and her domestic help (60) were found murdered on Sunday night at their residence at Shirasgaon Kata, a hamlet on the Shikrapur-Shrigonda road in Shirur taluka, about 90km from here.
Police said the unidentified suspect(s) had stabbed them to death for an unknown reason on Saturday night. Shirur police have identified the deceased woman as Vatsala Popat Mane and the worker as Kisan Shileman Londhe. Londhe used to help Mane with her agriculture farm work and other domestic chores. The complaint was lodged with the police on Sunday night by Bhanudas, Mane’s 44-year-old son who lives in Khed.
According to Shirur police, the incident took place sometime late on Saturday night. The unidentified person(s) are believed to have entered the house and stabbed the elderly persons with some sharp weapons. Both the deceased persons were found with deep injuries in their stomachs. Police said the reason behind the double
murder was yet to be ascertained. Both the deceased persons are poor and the suspects had not stolen any jewellery or other valuables from the home, police said.
After committing the murders, the suspects had locked the house from outside before fleeing. Their neighbours had noticed the lock on the door in the morning and had initially thought that Mane and Londhe had gone out.
However, late at night, one of the neighbours called Bhanudas Mane and informed him that his mother had not returned home. But Bhanudas said his mother could not have gone anywhere as she had spoken with him the previous day. The neighbour then broke the lock on Sunday night and the police were informed.
