India vs SA T20 match: Three arrested for cricket betting, Rs 6 lakh, ganja seized in Andhra's Kadapa

KADAPA: The police arrested three cricket betting organisers in Kadapa and Proddatur and seized `6 lakh cash, 2 kg of ganja and three mobile phones from them after conducting raids.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, DSP Sk Masum Basha said that One Town CI T V Satyanarayana and SI SKK Hussain, while they were on the routine rounds on Saturday night in the city, noticed Munisetti Chandrasekhar Reddy alias Poola Chandra sat on the staircase in front of Padmavati lodge, watching India vs South Africa T20 match on his mobile phone and sending messages suspiciously.

The police on suspicion, questioned him. He confessed to indulging in cricket betting on the India vs SA T20 match.

The police seized Rs 3 lakh and a mobile phone from him. He was also arrested along with five cricket betting organisers in 2011.

Later, he left the city and organsing cricket betting from Rayachoti, the DSP said.

Meanwhile, the police arrested two cricket betting organisers at Proddatur and seized Rs 2.6 lakh cash and 2 kg of ganja from them. DSP Srinivas told media on Sunday that Urban CI U Sadasivaiah and Two Town SIs Madhumalleswar Reddy, Rajasekhar, Excise Inspector Phanindra, on a tip-off, conducted a raid on a house in Modampalle bypass road and arrested B Venkata Subba Reddy and B Kumar Reddy while they were indulging in cricket betting. On seeing the police, the duo tried to escape.

But the police apprehended them after a chase. A sum of Rs 60,600 earned from the sale of ganja was also seized from the duo, the DSP said.
