BHUBANESWAR: Finance Minister Sashibhusan Behera has underscored the need for possible simplification of process for filing of returns pertaining to the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He was speaking at the seventh meeting of the group of ministers at New Delhi.

Two models were presented on the simplified process of return filing by taxpayers by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). The Finance Minister suggested that there should be detailed discussion with the stakeholders on the models.

Behera said provisional credit should be allowed and there should be clear and adequate provisions for recovery by tax officials of the same in case of defaults. He also suggested that updated status of the e-Waybill application by NIC should ensure that there is no issue this time.
