Gang armed with garden stakes storm Maccas, steal phones, cards, cash

Five men have smashed their way through a fast food outlet in Melbourne's north.

The gang entered McDonald's on Keilor Road in Essendon about 5am, wielding garden stakes which they used to smash windows and computers.

The men stole a mobile phone and bank cards from a terrified staff member.

They also took cash from the store.

Police said the men fled the scene in a small, blue vehicle.
