Samsung to launch a Bixby-powered smart speaker later this year says CEO DJ Koh

With Google, Apple and Amazon all launching their own smart-speakers, it comes as little surprise that Samsung has plans of launching a Bixby-powered speaker later this year.

CEO DJ Koh said in an interview, after the Galaxy S9 was unveiled, that this smart-speaker shall be launched in the second half of the year and it reportedly would be a vital piece for Samsung's Connected Vision household.

The report by Sammobile stated that Koh hasn't provided an exact release date as of yet. As is the case with Alexa, this soon-to-come smart-speaker will also be able to control household objects such as TVs, ACs, Microwaves etc. This makes sense as Samsung has the whole bouquet of its Smart Things IoT ecosystem.

Apart from the smart-speaker, Koh also said that the bendable display sporting Galaxy X is not a gimmick. However, as was the case with the smart-speaker, he has provided no fixed timeline for the device.

He said, "Sometimes I do not listen. My ear is not so good.", when he was questioned by CNET of a possible launch of the Galaxy X this year.
