Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair and peaceful voting for assembly elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland. The two states will go to polls tomorrow to elect their new assemblies. Campaigning in both the states ended yesterday evening. Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha has asked all District Election Administrations and Police Administrations to ensure that all political functionaries leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over. However, he said restriction will not be insisted upon the office bearer of the political party who is in-charge of the State. Restrictions on the conduct of any exit poll and publication and dissemination of result of such exit poll have also been imposed till 4:30 PM tomorrow.
A total of 195 candidates, including five women, are in the fray for 59 seats in the 60 member Nagaland Assembly. Former Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has been declared elected unopposed. In Meghalaya, a total of 312 Micro Observers will be deployed on the day of polling. Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor told reports that webcasting will be done from 193 polling stations.
A total of 370 candidates are in the fray for 59 seats. Polling in Williamnagar constituency has been deferred following the death of a candidate. Out of total 370 candidates, 32 female candidates are in the fray.
