Political leaders pay tributes to the versatile actor

Like the rest of the nation, Tamil Nadu woke up to the shocking news of the sudden demise of actor Sridevi, who began her film career in the State.

A daughter of Tamil Nadu, she acted in over 200 films and won extraordinary praise and laurels, said Governor Banwarilal Purohit. “She was a versatile professional who displayed a rare sense of talent and genius on the silver screen,” Mr. Purohit said, and conveyed his condolences to her family.

Sridevi was a pleasing personality and had carved a niche for herself in the cine industry over 50 years. Her demise is a huge loss to the Indian film industry, said Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

DMK working president M.K. Stalin said that he felt sad on hearing the sudden demise of Sridevi who made a mark for herself in Indian cinema and was awarded the Padma Shri.

On behalf of the DMK, he extended deep condolences to her family and friends.

‘Incomparable loss’

DMDK president Vijayakant said he was shocked to hear the news of her death. She played so many characters endearing herself to lakhs of fans. Her loss is incomparable, he said.

TNCC president Su. Thirunavukkarasar, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, TMC president G.K. Vasan, CPI(M) State secretary K. Balakrishnan paid their tributes.
