Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe takes over additional charge of Law, Order minister |
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe took over additional charge of Law and Order minister during a Cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Maithripala Sirisena today.
Several changes were made in the reshuffle including elevation of few state ministers to cabinet rank and bringing of two new faces as state ministers. President in a message said the government needs to improve its policies, programmes and actions to serve the people better following the people's message expressed at the recent local government election. He said the changes today as well as soon to made on his party side will strengthen the government.
Today’s reshuffle included ministers from United National Party (UNP) led by Prime minister only. The reshuffle comes in wake of couple of weeks of political uncertainty within unity government as both main parties failed to do well at local body elections. There was pressure on Prime minister to resign as several ministers from President’s party refused to back the government.
