Matt Millar fades on final day to finish fifth at New Zealand PGA Championship
Canberra golfer Matt Millar faded on the final day at New Zealand PGA Championship at Palmerston North to finish in a tie for fifth on Sunday.
Millar was in third and one shot off the pace at 15-under leading into the final day of the tournament where he earned his breakthrough PGA win in 2015.
He carded blistering rounds of 65, 68 and 65 in his first three rounds but five bogeys on Sunday cruelled any chance of a repeat title.
Kiwi Ben Campbell finished two shots clear at 266 to lift the trophy.
It marks another missed chance for Millar who finished second at the Queensland PGA a week earlier, but the 41-year-old veteran did win the New Zealand Master last month.
He'll stay across the ditch for the New Zealand Open in Queenstown, which starts on Thursday and will complete five tournaments in five weeks for Millar.
