The idiom: Don’t judge a book by its cover — could not have been more apt than for Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Those who have seen the trailer and decided not to go because it is yet another men versus women and it is always the woman who wins need to go see this one, it does throw a twist. Even though the lady in question played by Nushrat Bharucha says: “Ek baat batau dosti aur ladki mein hamesha ladki jeet ti hai.”
Not that the film is not about men versus women, it is. What makes this different or actually one should say similar to the other films by Luv Ranjan — the man who has to his credit films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama 1 & 2 and Life Sahi Hai — is that it shows the world from a man’s perspective to make you laugh, sometimes even involuntarily. Most women will disagree that all of them are conniving, manipulating and the sole aim for them is to grab a rich husband but most men would agree that what has been shown in Sonu Ke... is very much a reality.
That is what makes this film draw light laughs. This and the fact that there is no melodrama and dialogues to follow at the climax. It is such a relief to not have a movie messed up at the end. Something that Bollywood is known for. Though there are moments where one felt that the run-time could have been reduced by at least 15 minutes. As for the performance, it is the likes of Alok Nath and the rest of the supporting cast that add value to this bromance comedy.
