Sridevi in Lamhe.

Sridevi was THE biggest Superstar India had ever seen, considering that at one point she was, the most sought after actor across India, had a pan-India appear, even usurping male actors like Anil Kapoor and to some extent, Amitabh Bachchan.

The second reason for her to be tagged as the biggest star is the fact that she was a woman in Bollywood, when women were just entertainment tools 'placed' in regular intervals of a film, Sridevi 'acted'.

She danced, made funny faces, cried and blossomed like she owned the silver screen like no one ever did before her. Well, a great extend of Sridevi's life was spent onscreen - the 54 year old made her debut at the age of four.

Be it Sadma, Chandni, Kshana Kshanam, 'Govinda Govinda' or even 'Devaraagam', it was for Sridevi that audience thronged the theatre halls even if she had co-starred with Bachchan or a Kapoor.

Here are five Filmfare award winning performances of Sridevi that we can never forget.

1977 - Filmfare Special Award - South for 16 Vayathinile

At the age of 14, Sridevi acted in '16 Vayathinile', which literatally translates to 'At the age of 16'. In this directorial debut by Bharathiraja (who would later become one of the iconic directors of Tamil film industry) starred alongside Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth.

The movie went on to achieve cult status and was lauded for the stunning performance by its lead trio, especially Sridevi as well the realistic treatment of the story.

1982 – Filmfare Best Actress Award (Tamil) for Meendum Kokila

Initially directed by J Mahendran, 'Meendum Kokila' had Rekha playing the titular role. Sridevi was roped in when Rekha chose to opt out of the project after shooting 3000 feet of film. Playing Kokila, a woman who tries to take back her husband from an affair bagged her a second Filmfare award for Best Actress.

1991 – Filmfare Best Actress Award (Telugu) for Kshana Kshanam

A neo-noir comedy-thriller-road movie made by Ram Gopal Varma in Telugu, 'Kshana Kshanam' is about Satya, a reporter (played by Sridevi who ends up on the run with a thief, Chandu (played by Venkatesh).
Sridevi's performance is impressive with her excellent comic timing.

1990 – Filmfare Best Actress Award for ChaalBaaz

Directed by Pankaj Parashar, 'ChaalBaaz' was a remake of 'Seeta Aur Geet' starring Hema Malini in lead (double) roles. The remake starred Sridevi, Rajinikanth and Sunny Deol in lead roles. The film went on to become a superhit and is considered one of the finest performances by Sridevi.

1992 – Filmfare Best Actress Award for Lamhe

Directed by the King of Romance of Bollywood, Yash Chopra, 'Lamhe' starred Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in lead roles. The movie was inspired by a 1986 film called 'Anokha Rishta' which in turn was inspired by the Malayalam superhit Kanamarayathu', which in turn, phew, was a take on the 1912 novel, 'Daddy Long-Legs'.

Lamhe didn't exactly turn out to be a box-office success but has since then become one of the most remebered films in Yash Chopra, Sridevi as well as Anil Kapoor's careers.
