Leader of the opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar said that the Congress-led Karnataka government has not spent the amount that was mentioned in the 2017-18 budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on February 16.

Shettar said that while the government claimed to have spent Rs 1,86,561 crore, it has spent only 1,12,146 crore. "Is it possible to spend the remaining Rs 74,415 crore in the next two months?" questioned Shettar.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, he revealed figures to substantiate that 12 state departments have not even spent 50% of the allocation earmarked for various programs.

Of these departments:

Water resource department had spent Rs 6707 crore of the total of 14,433 crore (46.47%);

Food and civil supplies Rs 1484 crore of the total of 3635 crore (40.83%)

Public works department Rs 2968 crore of the total of 8042 crore (36.91%).
