Selaqui International School celebrated its 18th Graduations Day on Saturday during which the school announced opening of a Golf Academy in collaboration with the golf champion Amandeep Johl which will be inaugurated on February 25.
Present on the occasion as the chief guest, Mahesh Bhupathi, the celebrated tennis player, spoke about the importance of sports and the spirit of sportsmanship and also about the failure and success. While sharing his experiences, he said how he is looking forward to encountering good players in tennis from the academy after it comes up.
Amandeep Johl recounted how his parents wanted him to become an engineer . “But my passion for golf finally prevailed over and this is what made me what I am today,” he said. He further said he expects a good deal from the academy which would come up soon here. “I am looking forward to nurturing golfing talents among the students. I am sure that the coming years would see one or two from here turn into national champions,” he added.
The headmaster of the school Rashid Sharfuddin stressed on a harmony between studies and sports for the students. Sports helps one build character which is of immense import and this is why the school is trying its best to provide sporting facilities for the students, he said.
