Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri: FPI opposes Devadasi custom
The Freethought Party of India (FPI) has criticised the move to revive the Devadasi tradition in the Lord Jagannath Temple of Puri.
The party’s general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire also flayed the functioning of 5,000 Sankirtan Mandalis in the State. It said that 50, 000 Kirtanias assembled in Bhubaneswar on February 21 under the banner of the Sri Sri Jagannath Kala Sanskruti Seba Vikas Parishad (SSJKSSVP) to take all the Odias to the medievalist arms of the Puri Gajapati and the Shankaracharya of Gobardhan Peeth.
He also opposed the move to revive the Devadasi custom in the Shreemandir.
