Bollywood movie ‘Guide’ screened

A Bollywood movie ‘Guide’ based on the novel written by RK Narayan was screened at Dushyant Kumar Memorial Museum of Manuscript. The film screening marked the second day on Saturday of a three day Art Film Festival.

The second day of the film festival was inaugurated by the museum patron Manoj Meek and Mamta Tiwari by lighting of the lamp. Addressing the event, the director of the museum Rajurkar Raj welcomed everyone, giving information about this film festival he said that many times the novel or story is not written in the same way as the film is written. In the original novel characters and situations are portrayed differently than the movie.

Guide is a 1965 romantic drama film starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. It was directed by Vijay Anand. The film was screened at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, 42 years after its release.

After being released from prison for Forgery and Theft, multi-linguist Raju reflects on his life as a Guide; his meeting with the daughter of a prostitute, Rosie, who was unhappily married to Marco and wants to take up acting and dancing as a career. Rosie separates and moves in with Raju and his mother.

They both re-locate and with Raju's encouragement, she succeeds in an acting and dancing career resulting in both becoming very wealthy. He then succumbs to gambling and alcohol and forges Rosie's signature. He is arrested, tried in court, found guilty and imprisoned. Now discharged from prison, he changes his mind about returning home to his mother and decides to go elsewhere and start afresh - a decision that will alter his life and way of thinking forever.
