BHUBANESWAR: Odisha is all set to revise syllabus for under graduate courses in State universities and affiliated colleges. Since Odisha is the leading State to follow the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) prescribed by the UGC, all these institutions will now have one syllabus.Vice chairman of Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) Prof Ashok Das said the council aims to make an honest and sincere effort for a streamlined higher education system. “CBCS provides a learning platform wherein the student or knowledge seeker has the flexibility to choose their course from a list of elective, core and soft skill courses. Once we have a uniform syllabus, it will be of great help for students,” he said after a meeting with Board of Studies (BoS) chairmen from different universities on Friday.

A credit system for higher education measures various parameters like student performance, outcomes, entrepreneurship skills, contact hours, innovation and creativity talents. The implementation of CBCS system can also prove beneficial for institutes as student-centric approach of education creates applicability in the scope of study.

Among other agenda, streamlining CBCS syllabus including books and practicals to be adopted, options for discipline specific elective, general elective syllabus and structure, training for new units/topics in each paper, improving linguistic competency of students, structure of question paper and other exam related reforms were discussed.Chairmen of BoS from eight universities and faculty members from affiliated colleges attended the meet. Joint Secretary Parameswaran B, Director CDC (Utkal University) Santosh Kumar Tripathy and Examination Comptroller Pradeep Kumar Behera were present.
