CUTTACK: Four children were rescued from an abandoned room on the premises of Godabarisha Sishu Santha Ashram located at Nuasahi under Bidanasi police limits. The members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Chidline officials rescued the children in the age group of 5 to 7.

The children were staying in a dark room which has no doors and there was none to take care of the children, said CWC member Pradip Patnaik. Locals found them living in a pathetic condition and informed CWC and Childline following we took action, he added.

The rescued children have been rehabilitated in an open shelter after being produced before the CWC, Patnaik added. "Their parents have been summoned for counselling. The ashram has been shut down by the district administration about one and half year back," Patnaik said.

Following weeks of relative calm in Somalia's capital city Mogadishu, two car bombings killed 38 people in on Friday. The first blast, followed by gunfire, occurred at a security checkpoint close to the presidential palace Villa Somalia, the name for the seat of government, while a second followed soon after at a hotel. The Islamist militant group Al Shabaab claimed the attacks in a statement posted online, saying it was targeting the government and security services. | AP Photo
