The police have claimed to have traced the whereabouts of a man who allegedly ordered the huge cache of gelatin sticks, which was seized by a special squad after intercepting a lorry at Mukkom on Saturday.

The name of the suspect has been kept confidential as efforts are on to track the details of similar deals he has allegedly executed earlier with the Telangana-based explosive suppliers.

Though the name of the manufacturer has been identified as ‘Ídeal Industrial, Nalgonda,’ police sources say there is no surety on the accuracy of the same and it will be verified with the support of the Telangana police.

As Mathesh, the driver arrested in connection with the case is from Tamil Nadu, the squad will also check the possibility of deals operated by the man through Tamil Nadu-based explosive suppliers.

On Sunday, Mathesh, 40, who brought the explosives by a lorry to Mukkom was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. His police custody would be sought on Monday to go ahead with the further investigation and evidence collection.

Police sources said he was suspected of having clear knowledge about the explosive suppliers and their alliance with the suspected Kozhikode native.

The lorry was loaded with 1,000 kg of gelatin sticks, discretely packed in different boxes and covered using a polythene sheet. The vehicle was intercepted following a tip off received by the Mukkom Station House Officer.

What surprised the police was the driver was well aware of the stock and the risk of illegally shipping it to Kozhikode. Also, it was confirmed that the man who allegedly ordered the stock was having no direct involvement in quarry business, where most of the smuggled explosives were being used.
