Hubballi: The Hubballi-Ankola Broad Gauge Railway Santrastara Horata Samiti, Kalaghatagi, has demanded that the family members of land losers of the project be given government jobs. It decided to stage a dharna in front of the Kalaghatagi tahsildar’s office on Monday.

Samiti vice-president S N Upadhya told reporters here on Saturday that as per the Supreme Court direction, the land losers should be given compensation for parting away with their land.

He also demanded filling up of lakes of Kalghatgi taluk with the water of Kali river. “Like the lakes in Haliyal taluk in Uttara Kannada district were filled up with Kali water, the lakes in drought-hit Kalghatgi taluk should also be filled up. There is severe scarcity of drinking water for humans and animals in the taluk,” he said.

The Samiti also demanded that the money and gold that the people lost in the form of deposits made with Khasnis brothers be recovered and given back to the losers. Samiti president Suvarna G Kulkarni was present at the news conference.
