68 potential crime spots identified in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: A total of 68 abandoned plots have been identified across Gurugram, which, the police claim, can be misused by the rogue elements for drug peddling and other criminal activities, and even for disposing of the bodies. The police said the drive was still on to identify more such unattended plots, which could be misused as potential crime scenes.
On Tuesday, Gurugram police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar had instructed all station house officers (SHOs) to compile a list of all the abandoned and isolated plots under their respective jurisdictions. “These places are becoming hotspots for open drug and alcohol abuse, crime conspiracies, disposal of dead bodies. We are trying to curb crime and intend to increase patrolling in the areas marked as the most unsafe. However, we will need help from other agencies too. Somebody should be tasked to maintain such empty plots,” said Khirwar.

So far, 68 such areas — including a vacant plot outside DPS in Sector 47, one adjoining Central Mall on MG Road, one on Dwarka expressway, and plots in the Aravali foothills near Dambama, Khedla, Harchandpur, Nimoth and Mandwar — have been identified, said a senior police officer. Once the process is complete, the police department will also approach the civic bodies to find an appropriate solution. “We may ask them to cut the shrubs, fence the areas and form a team to manage the uninhabited plots to prevent any kind of criminal activities there,” said the officer.
