Chhattisgarh In-charge of All India Congress Committee (AICC) P.L. Punia has said that in the coming Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh would be fought on the issues confronting farmers.
He was addressing an Executive Body meeting of State Kisan Congress held here at Congress Bhawan on Friday.
Speaking on this occasion, Punia said on one hand, the Government at the Centre says that it would double the income of farmers, contradictorily on the other, it by submitting affidavit in Supreme Court denies accepting recommendations of Swaminathan Commission.
He further recalled that when India got independence, there was a crisis of food grains.
It was former Prime Minister late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had showed concern for farmers in the first five-year plan, he said.
Former Prime Minister late Lal Bahadur Shashtri had appealed to the people of country to be on fast at least once in a week.
The first and second green revolution as well as Operation Flood (for milk) was given by Congress party, he said. Only Congress is well wisher of farmers and will do the best for them when it comes to power, Punia said.
Rajya Sabha Member Chhaya Verma while speaking on the occasion said that BJP government talks about the target of 2022. They very well know that it will never come as they will be out of power in 2019, she said.
