2 arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 2.79 cr at IGI Airport

Two Indian men were arrested by the Customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle gold hidden in batteries at the Delhi Airport.

Dr Amandeep Singh, Additional Commissioner of Customs said, "The two men- aged 29 and 32 years were trying to sneak in 10kg gold worth Rs 2.79 crore at the Terminal T3 at the IGIA on Thursday,"

The officials said that the accused were intercepted after the Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department received a tip off that two men coming from Dubai are carrying undeclared gold on Thursday,"

"A detailed search of their baggage and personal search resulted in the recovery of 10 kg of gold hidden inside machinery being carried by them," said the official.

Following which a case has been registered under Sections 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. The official said that the market value of the gold, which has been seized from these two men, is Rs 2.79 crore, adding that both the passengers have been arrested under sections 104 of the Customs Act.
