Introducing Dr Love, Who Solves Your Relationship Riddles In A Confusing Digital Age
My mother found out that I have been chatting with a friend of mine from college and wants to meet him. I'm not even dating him, but she says she wants to meet everyone I chat with. This doesn't make any sense. How do I get her to back off?
Your mother wanting to meet someone doesn't necessarily mean the people you chat with want to meet her too. If you're not comfortable introducing someone to her, you don't have to. Speak to her though, and try figuring out where she's coming from, so you can both arrive at some sort of understanding. She only has your best interests at heart.
I have been trying to end a relationship with my girlfriend for over three weeks now, but haven't been able to, because she starts weeping hysterically whenever I start that conversation. We go out every weekend, and I keep trying to make her understand that this isn't working out. She responds by creating a huge scene and drawing everyone's attention, which makes me feel like an awful human being. She then calls the next morning and acts as if nothing has happened and starts planning when and where we have to go out. This is driving me mad. I don't want to break up by WhatsApp or something, but she has left me with no other choice. What should I do?
She's stalling, and it's fairly obvious that she has no intention of having this conversation. To be fair, this is probably hard for her and she needs time to process it. At the same time, you can't keep trying to get her to see your point of view forever, so you don't have to be subtle about it if she refuses to let you communicate. If she won't talk, send a message. It's not the best way to end a relationship, obviously, but if one of two adults refuses to act like one, I don't see what choice you have.
