Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched projects worth Rs 1,000 crore in the Union Territory of Daman and Diu, including flagging off air connectivity from the Union Territory to Ahmedabad.

"Daman has now been connected to Diu with air services and therefore people from South India and other parts of the world who want to visit the Union Territory and local destination will increase," the prime minister said addressing locals at a rally while flagging off Pawan Hans helicopter service from Daman to Diu.

Modi also remotely flagged off a daily plane service between Diu and Ahmedabad.

He also reiterated his government's commitment to help fishermen across the country, stating that the Centre would provide long boats to fishermen for them to be able to venture into the deep sea for better catch.

"Our entire emphasis on the 'blue revolution' is inspired by the commitment to bring a positive difference in the lives of fishermen," he said.

Meanwhile, the prime minister will be back again in Surat on Sunday evening to flag off the night marathon 'Run for New India'.
