Two killed, one injured in Narela gang rivalry

| | New Delhi

Two men were killed while another man sustained life threatening injuries after they were fired at and stabbed by a group of unidentified men in Outer Delhi's Narela area on Thursday evening. Police suspect that the murders are fallout of gang rivalry between Jitender Gogi and Tillu gang.

“The brutality went on when the killers not only shot them but also went on stabbing their bodies with a knife. The third youth, Mukesh (30), was found a little further away from the spot. The victims belong to the same family,” said a senior police officer.

Rajneesh Gupta, DCP (Rohini), said, "At around 8.15 pm on Thursday, 3 persons were stabbed. Two persons who died are Govind (25) and Satish (40). The third injured is Mukesh (30). All are residents of Bankner village in Narela. All the three have criminal background."

Police said Govind and Satish were attacked by a group of bikers on the Balbir nursing home road on the Ghewra village carriageway. Police said locals informed them that more than a dozen rounds were fired in the air on Thursday evening.

The injured were found bleeding profusely by a local who made a call to the PCR after which they all were rushed to the Raja Harishchandra hospital where Govind and Satish were declared brought dead. Mukesh was later shifted to LNJP hospital. "One of the deceased had injuries on his face and abdomen, while the other had injuries in his abdomen and chest," said the officer.

Cops are probing the role of Sandeep Dhillu, who had escaped from police custody in Maulana Azad Medical College while unidentified men threw chilli powder at the Third Battalion police personnel on Monday morning. Dhillu has been trying to gain supremacy in the areas around Narela and parts of Sonipat. Police are also probing the role of hired killers from Haryana in the murders.

Govind and Satish were property dealers and had cases of assault and attempt to murder registered against them in Delhi and Haryana. They were suspected to be involved with the Jitender Gogi gang, said a senior police officer.

With the Delhi Police increasing the reward money on the arrest of Gogi from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh by the Commissioner of Police earlier this month, police suspect gang rivalry.

Family members said they were informed about the murders after they got a call from someone claiming to be a well-wisher from one of the victims' phones. They suspect one of the killers made the call. Post mortem was conducted on Friday at the BSA hospital mortuary.

Now that Jacob Zuma has finally exited, the African National Congress, which has fallen a long way from its glory days, has one last chance to rebuild its reputation before next year’s election.
