Grand award ceremony held at multi-art centre

The 36th foundation anniversary of Bharat Bhavan had a grand closure on Friday. A grand award ceremony was held at the multi-art centre along with the exhibition of 7th Bharat Bhavan Biennial of Contemporary Indian Art.

Renowned artist Sudhir Patwardhan was invited as guest of honour on occasion. Besides, Principal Secretary of Culture Manoj Shrivastava along with Chief Administrative Officer of Bharat Bhavan Prem Shankar Shukla were also present on the occasion.

To begin with the event, Sudhir Patwardhan interacted with the audiences. He shared his experience and journey of being a self taught artist and congratulated the award winners. Later, the award ceremony was held. The awards were given in two categories i.e. Grand Awards and Highly Recommended Awards.

Under Grand Awards, artists like Manish Pushkale from New Delhi, Faiza Huma from Bhopal, Lado Bai from Bhopal, Mrigendrap Singh from Banaras and Nehal Rachh from Vadodara were given awards.

Under Highly Recom-mended Awards, artists like Rajesh Amblakar, Neeraj Ahirwar, Ramesh Singh Urveti, Anil Gaikwad and Shampa Shah from Bhopal received awards. Moreover, Smriti Dixit from Mumbai, Hukum Lal Verma from Rajnandgaon, Yogendra Tripathi from Bhilai, R. Bala Subramaniam from Chennai, Geetika Chatterjee from Dehradun, Hari Singh from Dindori and Avinash Rao from Nagpur received awards under the same category.

Sudhir Patwardhan’s paintings are also on display at the art gallery of Bharat Bhavan. He is a renowned artist of the country. Sudhir Patwardhan is a self taught artist and a practicing radiologist. Apart from several solo shows he has participated in international exhibitions too.

Patwardhan's canvases are densely populated reflecting the hub of city life often with emphasis on the ordinary, working man. Apparently realistic, the work at times brings in an imaginary, remembered space or it can be viewed from several vantage points making it multi faceted. His works which are on display at Bharat Bhavan is appreciated by the art lovers of the city.
