A committee of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), which is investigating the alleged gangrape and suicide of the Kunduli Dalit minor girl, on Friday accused the State Government, police and doctors of negligence in the case.
Chief of the panel Yogendra Paswan said that from the spot assessment the negligence of the State Government is quite clear. “No arrest has been made so far. Similarly, there is utter discrepancy in the forensic reports. While the initial report points that the victim was sexually harassed, the subsequent report has a totally different finding. There is a hint of tampering by doctors as well,” he said.
“This apart, since the case was also registered under the POCSO Act, the State Government should have paid minimum compensation to the kin of the victim as per the norms. But it was also not done,” Paswan said.
“Besides, the family members of the victim had also demanded for a CBI probe into the gangrape and suicide, but the State Government ignored it,” he added.
A three-member committee of the commission led by Paswan had visited the State for probe into the alleged gangrape and subsequent suicide by the girl.
In reaction, BJD spokesperson Rabi Narayan Nanda said, “The State Government has ordered an SIT probe into the incident under the supervision of a sitting Orissa High Court Judge. The issue should not be politicised.”
