Ahead of elections, consignment of EVMs reaches Mysuru

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) reached Mysuru from Tamil Nadu, ahead of the elections, on Saturday.
As many as 3,000 control units and 3,600 ballot units were brought in eight trucks amid tight security. The machines are stored at a godown of the Election Commission branch office here.
To avert electoral malpractices and to keep a close watch on the EVMs, the machines are incorporated with the Electronic Tracking Software (ETS). Two officials working at the deputy commissioner's office are given access to monitor the EVMs.
Deputy Commissioner D Randeep told DH that the Election Commission has developed the software. "With the help of the software, the storage of the machines and the constituency where the machines are functioning can be tracked."
The DC said it was necessary to update ETS before transporting the machines. "The code number of the places from where the machines are being transported need to be provided. Now, electoral malpractices are highly impossible," he said.
In order to ensure security, CCTV cameras have been installed near the office and at the godown.
The authorities have already stored 3,500 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) devices, 300 control units and 300 ballot machines in the room.
