Pune: The Pune Cantonment police on Saturday arrested two vendors from Gawliwada area for attacking Pune Cantonment Board’s chief
health superintendent Sanjay Zende. The vendors attacked the
official while he was taking action against illegal vendors in a lane near hotel Aurora Towers, off M G Road, around 4.15pm on Friday.
The suspects were identified as Sunny Bidkar and Rohit Kirloskar.
PCB chief executive officer D N Yadav said, “MG Road and its surrounding areas are no hawking zones. The anti-encroachment squad, headed by Zende, patrols the areas and takes action against illegal
hawkers and vendors on M G Road and other places.
During one such drive in the area on Friday, the vendors attacked and misbehaved with Zende. There were no policemen present when the action was being taken by the squad. Zende later lodged an FIR against the attackers for preventing him from performing his duty.
Senior inspector Vasant Kunvar said,“The arrested hawkers abused and threatened Zende with with dire consequences. A charge sheet will be filed against them at the earliest at the Pune cantonment court.”
“The PCB’s squad seeks police protection while taking action against illegal hawkers and encroachers. However, there was no such request on Friday.”
