BHUBANESWAR: Police on Friday baton charged a group of agitators who clashed with them while staging a protest over the death of a tent house owner on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Dhaneswar Das of Chandrasekharpur Housing Board Colony.

According to sources, PCR vehicle personnel spotted Das with injuries along a road in Niladri Vihar and rushed him to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.Das was running a tent house business in Chandrasekharpur and had not returned home on Thursday night. Das had sustained serious injuries on his legs.

Meanwhile, on being informed family members of Das reached the hospital and his brother Pramod Kumar Das lodged a complaint at Chandrasekharpur police station. Basing on the complaint, police registered a murder case.

Claiming that Das was murdered, his family members blocked the road with the body demanding immediate arrest of the accused. When police reached the spot and tried to disperse the crowd, the agitators clashed with police. When the situation worsened, police resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control. While police have not ruled out the possibility of murder, they said Das was hit by an unidentified vehicle which could have led to his death. “We have sought the call detail record of Das from February 20 to 22. A murder case has been registered and investigation is on,” Chandrasekharpur police said.
