B’swar cops release baby lifter’s video footage

The police released video footage as well as pictures of a woman who allegedly had stolen a 4-month-old male infant from her mother on Thursday at Ananda Bazar near Baleswar rail station.

The missing baby belongs to Aju Dalei (38) and his wife Gouri Dalei (30) of Padampur village under Chandipur police station limits.

The unidentified woman aged about 40 years wearing a red saree in CC TV cameras installed near Baleswar railway station was seen with the kidnapped baby at around 4.45 pm on Thursday.

The police believe that she had fled with the baby towards Jaleswar and beyond by catching a Howrah -bound train.

The victim mother Gouri along with her 11 other SHG members had come to Baleswar town from her village to a bank with some work.

After finishing the works in the bank, the group members while taking tea and snacks in a roadside shop, Gouri was approached by the baby lifter.

The accused lady had told Gouri to hand over the infant so that she can take tea comfortably. After finishing tea when Gouri searched her son as well as the woman neither of them could be traced. She lodged an FIR with the Sahadevkhunta police.

The police after searching all the CCTVs in the area could locate the woman. She was seen with the missing baby at around 4.43 pm near railway station. Gouri too identified the woman to whom she handed over her son.

DSP (crime) Sudarshan Dash said, “We would be circulating the pictures of the woman across all railway stations and displaying pictures at all prominent places of the district as it is suspected that she had gone elsewhere by catching a train. The detail would be known after she is nabbed and the child is rescued.”
