The city of Jaipur was established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. The city had faced water scarcity problems since its establishment. To fix this problem of the forts of Amer and Jaigarh and for the people of Amer, Sawai Jai Singh decided to build a man-made lake 17th century. The lake was named ‘Sagar’ is hidden by the Aravali range. It is neither visible from fort nor from the city.

Have you ever seen a cave from where ghee drops?

This rectangular-shaped lake is filled by the monsoon rains. The lake is divided into two parts – Upper and Lower Sagar and is connected with some step wells that fill up with water once the lake reaches its full capacity. This lake has long been filling the water requirements of the people of the region. The Sagar lake is also considered to be one of the picnic spots in Jaipur city.  If you are visiting Amer or the Anokhi Museum in the evening, do stop by. The sunset turns the mud plastered walls of Amer into a golden labyrinth waiting to be explored.
