PUNE: Burglars broke into the
bungalow of a
71-year-old army widow and stole cash and ornaments totally worth Rs15.45 lakh.
Parminder Kaur, the wife of late Colonel Kamaljeet Singh, lives alone in the bungalow in Empress View housing society at sopanbaug, while her son lives in Pashan.
In the complaint lodged with the Wanowrie police on Friday, Parminder said she suspects the involvement of painters, as no one else had visited her residence.
According to the complaint, “Parminder had kept the ornaments in the cupboard on January 8. When she opened the cupboard on January 30 she found cash Rs40,000 gold and diamond ornaments and camera totally worth Rs15.45 lakhs stolen.”
Parminder had initially suspected her maid, but the latter denied it. Kaur carried out an exhaustive search of the two=-storied, five-bedroom house, but couldn’t find the
valuables.
The elderly woman also made inquiries with her son, who stays with her during weekends, but in vain. After every effort to find the valuables failed, she approached the police, who registered an FIR under section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. Sub-inspector Ajay Mehtre is investigating the case.
