Tension as cops, mob face off in city
Tension prevailed at Damana Square in the city on Friday evening after Niladri Vihar locals blocked the Patia road by keeping a body of a youth, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances on Thursday night. The roadblock disrupted traffic for a couple of hours. When police personnel tried to pacify the protestors and clear the road, they were pelted stones by the mob. The police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
Sources said that one Dhaneswar Das of the colony was found dead in mysterious circumstances. The locals alleged that the youth was murdered, but the police were trying to hush up the matter terming it as an accident case.
