All-woman crew of TCs to be deployed in Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express from March 8

The Western Railways has decided to have an all-woman ticket checking staff in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express from March 8, which happens to be International Women's Day.

After deploying an all-woman TTE staff on the same train on trial basis and getting a 66 per cent jump in the earnings in a single day, the Western Railways has decided to launch the pilot project.

At least six female TTE will board the Shatabdi Express each day and return the same day and if this deployment proves to be useful then it will be implemented in other trains as well.

Currently, of the six TTEs on the Shatabdi Express, only two are women.

The idea is the brainchild of Western Railways' senior divisional railway commissioner Aarti Singh Parihar. "Women are honest and the earnings on the day we held the trial run with all-women TTE staff proves it", Aarti told TOI.
