Mumbai: The Patidar community leader Hardik Patel on Thursday said that he would continue to extend help and support to Congress to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), though he is not a Congress member.
“The country is sinking because of last four years of BJP’s governance. At a time when India’s democracy is facing such a major challenge, it is the duty of the youth to come forward to save the country. The government cannot give employment, it does not talk about basic necessities of Dalits and farmers and that is the reason why people must stand against this government,” said Mr. Patel.
He was addressing members of social media cell of the Mumbai city unit of the Congress.
‘100% anti-BJP’
Mr. Patel said that he is 100% anti-BJP. “I am not a member of the Congress, but I will help and support Congress. I will continue visiting the city again and again. This government might create more hurdles or may trouble me. But I will continue doing this,” he added.
Big spend on media
Addressing the office-bearers of party’s social media cell, Mr. Patel alleged that the BJP spends around ₹200 to ₹300 crore only on social media. “This is the social media which helped Narendra Modi become the Prime Minister of India. If this social media can make someone the PM, it can also defeat the BJP in next elections,” he said, adding that social media can be used as an effective tool to create awareness among the people against the government.
Attacking Mr. Modi, the Patidar leader said the government had claimed that they were cleaning Ganga. “But in reality the banks are being cleaned by the likes of Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi,” he said.
