The Mumbai film industry signed MOU worth over Rs 2,000 crore with the UP government on the concluding day of the UP Investors summit 2018. The MOUs were signed during the Media and entertainment session of the summit. The prominent among those who signed the MOUs are Ravi Kishan production a prominent artist of the Bhojpuri cinema, Boney Kapoor producer and director.
The MOUs were signed for producing films and the state and developing film production facility in the different location of Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the session minister of state for information department Neelkanth Tewari said film producer and directors to explore the possibility of developing UP as a destination for the film production on the lines of Mumbai. He said as much as 43 percent of the revenue of the Mumbai film industry comes from northern India of which overwhelming contribution is from UP.
``UP has population 0f 22 crore where as much as 14 crore are youth. You explore the location in UP and we are willing to extend all possible assistance in the endeavor. There is no dearth of land as the state government has already prepared a land bank’’, said the minister adding `` the state government would soon make a big announcement about the film industry and also organise a big event in the state’’.
The noted film director Subash Ghai said he recently attended a film festival where films in different languages like Telgu, Tamil, Malyalee, and Kannada but there was no Hindi film for Uttar Pradesh. ``It’s a very strange situation where national film industry produces maximum number of films in Hindi yet they have no identity as films from Uttar Pradesh. We must find an answer to this situation’’, said Subash Ghai. He said the film industry in USA is the second largest exporter and the people of UP should also encourage the kids to join the world of art and cinema as the career as doctor, engineer, chartered accountant is not the end of the world.
The film producer said there were only 1,000 screens in the state located in 25 districts. ``This number of woefully low and there should be at least one screen in each district, said Boney Kapoor.
The principal secretary information Avneesh Awasthi said ``UP has all the factors for becoming a leading state in the field of media and entertainment industry and making UP as focal point of investment in entertainment industry will prove to be a very profitable bargain’’. He said UP provides maximum number of viewers to the film industry and no film can get the status of `Hit film’ without success in UP. He said there is hardly any film or serial without artists from UP. He said every third person in the film industry whether working in films are serials is from Uttar Pradesh.
